Fun with Phonics: The Key to Successful Reading Tutoring

Fun with Phonics: The Key to Successful Reading Tutoring

If your child is having reading difficulty, you are probably considering a phonics reading program to help him improve his reading skills. Fun with phonics is what your child needs.

Are you concerned that enlisting your children in an intensive reading course will turn them into your enemy? Being a loving, caring parent, you probably are... but take a look at this conversation I had with a worried mother of a struggling reader:

"My 9-year-old son is dyslexic and also suffers from ADHD.  He has difficulties in learning to read and needs help. Can you teach my child to read?

"Sure," I answered, "We should meet every day for 45 minutes for about 2.5 weeks.

Mom immediately began feeling sorry for her child. "Everyday?! I don't know how I can make him do that! And 45 minutes is too long, he can't sit for longer than 10-15 minutes."

"If you want to see your child improve his reading skills, this is the deal," I responded, "Take it or leave it!

"So what should I tell him?" She asked desperately.

"Tell him that he is going to have fun with phonics!

This was too much for Mom. "Are you sure?" she asked. "But you don't know my son!"

"I am positive," I said, "You are welcome to sit with us during the guided reading lesson."

Tom began to work with EasyPhonics™. The first session turned into a real party. He had fun with phonics and enjoyed every moment, especially the fact that he succeeded in all the tasks. Encouraged by Fonty, he became highly motivated, didn't miss a session, and— after only 15 days— learned to read.

His mother attended all the sessions and couldn't believe her eyes. "It's a miracle," she kept saying. She was used to a child with little motivation… a loser. All of a sudden he had the drive to succeed!

Two years later I met Tom’s sister, Anne, for 10 guided reading lessons. She also suffered from ADHD and was weaker than her brother… but she needed only 10 sessions at 45 minutes each to overcome her reading difficulty and become an automatic reader.

Four more years have passed and I am now waiting to start the EasyPhonics™ course with Tom and Anne’s little sister. Their mother says she is the weakest. I’ll tell you all about that experience when we have finished her foray into the phonics reading program.

This story has repeated itself hundreds of times in the last 10 years. The conclusion I’ve reached is that people who succeed want to repeat these moments of success and, as a result, become highly motivated. This is especially true with those who consider themselves losers.

The EasyPhonics™ reading program is a breakthrough approach to skills acquisition and is especially designed for kids. Interactive phonics games ensure children will have fun while learning… and, as we all know, fun is the key to successful reading tutoring.
